History of the HCG Diet

The HCG diet was pioneered by the British physician Dr. Albert Theodore William Simeons during his work with malnourished villagers in India during the early 1950’s. Dr. Simeons documented his work in his book titled Pounds and Inches – A New Approach to Obesity, which details the results of his studies of the human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) hormone. To his amazement, many of the malnourished pregnant women Dr. Simeons studied were able to give birth to healthy, full-weight, babies despite living in near starvation conditions. Dr. Simeons discovered that one of the natural processes in preventing underweight infants in these women was directly related to the HCG hormone being produced by the placenta. The HCG hormone was interacting with metabolic processes and actually tapping into existing fat stores in the mothers’ bodies, breaking down the fat for the nourishment needed to keep the unborn child developing properly.

With careful study and testing, Dr. Simeons was able to isolate the HCG hormone and use it in patients who were not pregnant to stimulate the metabolizing of fat stores. By administering carefully measured daily HCG supplements, and prescribing a very specific low-calorie diet, Simeons was able to get the HCG hormone to interact with the metabolism in the same way it is intended to in pregnant women, however this time with dramatically different results. As his patients were overweight and did not need the nutrients to sustain an infant, they were able to sustain themselves off of the nutrients being metabolized from the fat stores, all the while watching pounds and inches fall off.

Soon after his publication of Pounds and Inches in 1954, the HCG diet drew an incredible amount of attention from both the public, and competitors within the healthcare industry. It wasn’t long after HCG became available for use by doctors that privateers attempted to capitalize on the success of HCG, and began manufacturing a myriad of unregulated products available to consumers over-the-counter and without a doctor’s recommendation or supervision. Even today, the only safe and trusted HCG products are available exclusively from licensed medical professionals, and should only be used under the supervision of an experienced physician.

The HCG diet allows men and women to take advantage of the interactions of the human chorionic gonadotropin hormone with the metabolism to eat away body fat stores while observing a low-calorie diet. Unlike many other diets, the HCG diet plan is able to unlock unwanted fat deposits to be used as energy, and allows patients to maintain energy and feel satiated even while taking in as few as 500 calories per day. The HCG hormone can release 1500-2000 calories in fat per day to be metabolized by the body, which helps dieters avoid feeling tired and hungry. Thousands of people have successfully used Dr. Simeons’s HCG diet to lose weight and reach their health and fitness goals.
